CAMINO FRANCES: DAY 27

Camino Frances day 27.

Cruz de Ferro is a cross made out of wood. On its top there is a iron cross and its base is supported by a pile of stones.

The legend says that in order to build the Cathedral of Compostela, pilgrims were asked to contribute by bringing a stone.

After the construction of the Catherdal was complete, pilgrims kept carrying stones from their homes as a symbolism of their pain and suffering and laying them at the bottom of the cross. This is a way of liberating themselves and continue the pilgrimage without any mental burden.
